I am grateful to have participated in the International Training Course on Precision Radiotherapy at Shanghai Cancer Center, thanks to the kind invitation of Hongcheng Zhu and the Belt & Road Program. This experience allowed me to engage deeply with cutting-edge approaches to cancer care and explore advancements in precision oncology. During the visit, I had the opportunity for hands-on SBRT planning in lung and head–neck cancers under the guidance of leading experts. I toured the Shanghai Proton & Heavy Ion Center (SPHIC), the first of its kind in China, and learned about innovative clinical trials and translational research that are shaping patient-centered treatment protocols. Additionally, a visit to United Imaging Healthcare HQ showcased AI-driven contouring, planning, and molecular imaging breakthroughs — providing insights I hope to integrate back in Kenya. Beyond the clinical experience, the trip offered rich cultural immersion, from tasting traditional Chinese tea to exploring Shanghai’s vibrant cosmopolitan spirit. I left inspired to bring back these lessons and insights to strengthen cancer care in Kenya and across Africa, ensuring that patients benefit from globally-informed, high-quality oncology practices.
